Metro Wire & Cable Corp. and Industry Update

Quarterly Company and Industry Update

Metro Wire & Cable Corp. extends its gratitude to employees, customers, vendors, and the communities who enable us to provide comprehensive support – from material selection to procurement and delivery. As we step into the second half of 2023, we wish to update you on industry trends and company news.

Renewable Energy

Renewable energy is the most rapidly expanding energy source in the U.S., which has grown 42% between 2010 and 2020 (up 90 percent from 2000 to 2020). Federal, state, local, and corporate efforts to invest in renewables like solar, wind (on and offshore), hydro, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) have led to tremendous growth and frequent requests for Metro Wire’s products and services. We’re wrapping up several projects in states like Arizona, Massachusetts, New Mexico, and Florida while ramping up other projects in Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Alabama, Texas, and Nevada to support developers, contractors, public utilities, and corporations with their investment into the growing power source. As such, many electrical/utility contractors, Construction Managers, and EPCs are entering into this market segment.  We encourage you to contact us to explore best practices within this market and a product overview.

Infrastructure Improvement

Following the enactment of the ‘Investing in America’ Bipartisan Infrastructure Act, we’re witnessing robust demand for Transportation/DOT products, aiding the expansion of various roadways, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) airport lighting upgrades, runway expansions, and Department of Defense (DOD) projects. MWC has boosted inventory levels to support these initiatives.  Our Team is also trained experts in Federal/State reporting that is required on how these funds are being utilized.

Grid Development

One of Metro Wire & Cable’s cornerstone markets, we’ve completed over 150 projects this year in support of our National, Regional, Municipal, Co-Op and EMC electrical partners. From design-assist/build to storm restoration and response, we’re committed to promoting our national grid and ensuring safe, dependable electricity across North America with our reliable and industry leading products. Related to the previously mentioned growth in renewable energy sources, we are also seeing a growing backlog of projects applying and/or waiting for connection to the power grid.  These projects are mainly solar, wind and battery storage.

Metro Wire & Cable Infrastructure Enhancements

As shared earlier this year, we announced the expansion of our Corporate Detroit (Sterling Heights, MI) Headquarters and Distribution facility, reflecting our commitment to investing in operations, inventory, clients, and employees. This addition enables our team to provide more cost-efficient solutions to our clients as well as custom-tailored project planning, design, and execution. Be on the lookout for several more announcements coming later this quarter/year, including an expansion and renovation of our Midwest Sales & Distribution Facility in Iowa City, Iowa. All of these enrichments can benefit you and make your job easier!

As always, never hesitate to reach out to your Metro Wire & Cable point-of-contact if we can be of assistance to you and your colleagues. We deeply appreciate your continued support, trust, and confidence. On behalf of everyone at Metro Wire & Cable, THANK YOU!
